WHAT IS MAMAS FOR MAMAS GRANDE PRAIRIE DOING TO HELP COMBAT THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC IMPACT OF COVID-19?
Mamas for Mamas Grande Prairie is focused on offering a hand up to those in need during this unparalleled time in the world. No one plans for a global pandemic and anyone could be affected financially, emotionally, or physically. We recognize this is not just a ‘Mama’ issue, and so we are looking to build longer tables, not higher fences. Let’s gather at the table with seniors who do not have the ability to leave their homes to buy groceries. The mothers who are patiently waiting for their child tax benefit to come through in order to buy their essentials. The single dad who is unable to work because he has to stay home and care for his children. Big picture – we all need to come to the table.
Mamas for Mamas Grande Prairie is excited to come together for our community in a virtual way. We continue to build our digital village, no matter how socially distant we have to be to stay safe because we need to stay connected. Now, more than ever.
Today, we ask you to join us by contributing whatever you can to our virtual table. We all know someone, or many people, who could benefit from a HAND UP.
Mamas for Mamas Grande Prairie has teamed up with our community partners – Babies Best Start, GP Family Education Society, Odyssey House Women’s Shelter, The Friendship Centre, and Pregnant & Parenting Teens – to keep our most marginalized community members supported through this time of uncertainty. It takes a village to raise a child, and it is going to take a resilient and dedicated community to raise the bar on how we treat each other during these hardships. Let us be the example of how a community can come together and face this challenge virtually arm in arm.
We will continue to answer emails and assist anyone who needs emergency supplies, following our mandate by providing a hand up, not a handout.
In gratitude and unity,
The Grande Prairie Mamas for Mamas Team
